Walnut Creek Presbyterian Church is a diverse, growing congregation located on a five-acre campus in the heart of downtown Walnut Creek. We are seeking a part-time Children’s Ministries Coordinator to join a collaborative, joyful staff team committed to shared purpose, healthy relationships, and meaningful ministry.

Position Overview
The Children’s Ministries Coordinator provides leadership in three key areas: administrative oversight, leading a team of caregivers to provide high-quality childcare, and supporting the Director in creating and implementing spiritually formative, developmentally appropriate programs and classrooms for children from infancy through 5th grade. This role ensures the smooth operation, safety, and spiritual growth of children’s ministry environments through organization, collaboration, and hands-on leadership.
Key Responsibilities
Childcare Program Administration
- Coordinate and manage high-quality, developmentally appropriate, faith-based childcare that supports Children’s Ministries and broader church programs and events.
- Recruit, hire, train, equip, schedule, supervise, and encourage both volunteer and paid childcare staff.
- Maintain clean, safe, welcoming, and well-supplied childcare classrooms and play areas.
- Plan, adapt, and implement developmentally appropriate Christian curriculum components and activities for childcare programs.
- Supervise and serve in all situations requiring childcare support.
- Serve as a part of the staff team at church-wide events and holiday services.
Children’s Ministry Program Support (Infant–5th Grade)
- In partnership with the Director of Children’s Ministries, support Sunday morning programming, including staffing coordination for both paid and volunteer caregivers.
- Collaborate with the Director to plan and support developmentally appropriate, Christ-centered curriculum and activities.
- Maintain accurate attendance, household information, and medical records.
Administrative Support
- Maintain files, records, databases, manuals, and resource materials related to childcare, registrations, attendance, volunteers, training, and budget tracking.
- Manage Children’s Ministry calendars and coordinate room reservations.
- Order and assemble supplies and materials for ministry events and programs.
Other Duties
- Perform other responsibilities as assigned.

- A college degree (completed or in progress) with an emphasis in Child Development/Early Childhood Education, or relevant field experience, is a plus.
Position Details
- Reports to: Director of Children’s Ministries
- Supervises: Childcare paid staff
- Hours: 24-28 hours per week
- Compensation: $23-25 per hour
- Schedule: Onsite Sundays, Mondays, Tuesdays, Christmas Eve, Holy Week services, and additional hours as agreed upon; some flexibility for remote work
- Meetings: Weekly staff meetings on Tuesdays
- Backup for: Director of Children’s Ministries
Flexible work from home options available.
Compensation: $23.00 - $25.00 per hour
